Systems
PAV solution slashes call charges for
flight simulator company.
Business
Background
Quadrant Systems is the fastest growing flight simulation
company in the UK. In providing a comprehensive range of services
covering every key area of flight simulation, the company
caters for the specific needs of both civil and military customers
in the UK and world-wide. In addition to their world-wide
maintenance contracts, Quadrant Systems have flight simulators in
the UK at widely dispersed sites – Burgess Hill and
Shoreham in Sussex, Waddington in Lincolnshire and Linton
on Ouse, North Yorkshire.
Requirement
– Reduce telephone bills and network administration
costs
We were asked to help in reducing the costs of Quadrant Systems'
Wide-Area Network and network administration, between their
UK bases. Three sites were connected for data-link purposes
by ISDN and the annual dial-up charges between these sites
amounted to over £30,000.
PAV
Solution
We suggested routing data through leased lines between the
sites and because of the bandwidth involved, we recommended
using a CITRIX thin client solution. We installed CITRIX servers
at Quadrant Systems' headquarters at Burgess Hill and set up
all the users for the other two sites as thin clients. This
enabled the administration for all three sites to be handled
centrally from Burgess Hill.
Outcome
Quadrant Systems now have reduced and known fixed WAN costs based
on the much lower bandwidth required for CITRIX. They also
benefit from centralised administration and much easier roll-out
to remote sites and bases. Quadrant Systems' annual connection
charges are now fixed and have been reduced by about 50%.
They subsequently added the fourth site in Yorkshire, which
has been connected to the CITRIX network along the same lines,
reducing costs even further. The company intend to expand
further in the near future secure in the knowledge that the
new network design will enable more sites to be added relatively
simply.
